A group of people working on laptops at a DPUK datathon.

DPUK's Advanced Health Data Academy is an annual, 5-day virtual event with online presentations, lectures and guided tutorials, group collaborations and hands-on big data exercises aimed at helping researchers enhance their data science skillsets.

Our next Advanced Academy will be 3-7 November 2025.

Booking will open in the Autumn, but you can register your interest by emailing dpuk@psych.ox.ac.uk

This course is for people with an existing background in statistics or for people who have completed the Elementary Health Data Academy. It is equally suited to more experienced data analysts who want to expand their repertoire of cohort analysis techniques.

The course focuses on Longitudinal methods of Data Analysis using large cohorts.

Topics include:

  • Cox Regression
  • Survival Analysis
  • Machine Learning
  • Structural Equation Modelling

Day 5 of the week will be a consolidation day, applying some of the learning in a group analysis exercise.

This course uses various statistical packages e.g. R, Python and Stata. Basic teaching is provided, however participants should feel able to competently run and interpret linear and logistic regression analyses.

Participants work with cohort data to learn new skills and work on real research projects.

Each day of the event involves morning presentations and lectures on themed areas of dementia research and specific longitudinal cohort analysis techniques. Afternoon sessions allow participants to work on research projects using real-world data.

Teaching will be carried out using the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) cohort.

DPUK's Autumn Academy complements the Elementary Health Data Academy, which is aimed at analysts new to working with data.

We aim to keep costs very low and you can expect to be charged around £125 for the whole 5-day course.
